Tallahassee Winds had their opening concert for the 2017-2018 season on Tuesday, September 26th. We welcome Julia Baumanis as the Graduate Guest Conductor for this semester. She’s doing a great job in creating balance within the ensemble and extracting musical shape and nuance from the players. We look forward to working with her, and of course Dr. Pat Dunnigan and Dr. David Plack, again for our next concert on November 21st.
This concert’s program consisted of:
Star Spangeld Banner
Academic Festival Overture – Johanness Brahms/trans. Mark Hindsley
City Trees – Michael Markowski
Army of the Nile – Kenneth Alford/ed. Fredrick Fennell
Ballo del granduca – Jan Pieterszoon Sweellinck/trans. Michael Walters
Capriccio – Satoshi Yagisawa (Tallahassee Breezes)
Sunscapes – Chandler Wilson
Dusk – Steven Bryant
Highlights from Beauty and the Beast – Ashman & Menken/arr. John Moss
The clarinet choir had the privilege of performing one piece on this opening concert. We were all excited to share our hard work from the summer with our colleagues and the audience. The choir played fabulously from beginning to end and was well received. I’m very proud of the Tallahassee Breezes.
This season marks my second season with the ensemble and my first season as principal clarinet. I look forward to future concerts with the group and clarinet section.
